In the cellular world these sites are generally known as Microcells and although considered as street furniture, as they occupy existing street furniture such as CCTV poles and lampposts, can also comprise a small BTS located within a bank or a building society with a external antenna located within the building frontage.

Typically used to provide additional coverage or capacity (hot spot) in areas where poor macro coverage or increased subscriber activity in peak times occurs they tend to be utilised in retail areas and high streets.

MiTech Consultants worked in close co-operation with Vodafone to roll out many city centre CCTV/Microcell schemes which utilised specially adapted wide based CCTV poles to house the Radio BTS.
